An alliance of Palestinian organisations and Colombian trade unionists and indigenous groups has claimed victory after Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro announced a halt to the country’s coal exports to Israel earlier this month.
Colombia’s decree on Saturday said coal shipments to Israel would be suspended until the country obeys the International Court of Justice order to halt its assault on Rafah.
It came after the Palestinian Institute for Public Diplomacy (PIPD) wrote to Petro in June, reiterating its calls for a coal export ban by Colombia’s largest coal miners union, Sintracarbon.
“The ongoing genocide, its length and magnitude would not have been possible if the colonising state of Israel had stopped receiving energy sources allowing it to commit one of the most atrocious crimes in history,” it said.
“Governments failing to take action are enabling the annihilation of Palestinians.”

Mobilizing for Gaza
“Silence is not an option during genocide. If you are an ally – a true ally – you are taking matters to inform people. Everyone has an influence. Whether you’re in a company to change the way that they do business, whether you’re addressing your community or family…There is always a way to act and speak up.”
The latest webinar in “Mobilizing for Gaza” series created by BuildPalestine convened two Palestinian advocates who guide a global community to effectively speak up and take action for Palestine: Inès Abdel Razek, Executive Director of the Palestinian Institute for Public Diplomacy (PIPD) and its digital platform Rabet, and Aimee Shalan, Director of Makan.

Voices of the occupied West Bank: ‘Any action is resistance’
Occupied West Bank – As Israel’s war on Gaza grinds on, violence is spiking in the occupied West Bank as Israeli forces step up their raids on Palestinian towns and refugee camps and settlers increase their attacks and harassment of Palestinians.
The cost in human lives ruined has been immense, with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs saying Israeli forces killed 30 Palestinians, including seven children, in the West Bank in the first 15 days of the year.
Thousands of people have been arrested and taken into Israeli detention, many held under the “administrative detention” system, which Israeli authorities use to hold Palestinians indefinitely with no charge.

UN funding cut: Is it part of Israel’s grander plan to expel Palestinians?
The move to block funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for Palestinian refugees is rooted in dangerous motives, including an attempt to forestall Palestinians’ right to return to their homes in occupied territories, analysts and activists say.
The United States, Britain, and Germany are among the rich countries that have suspended UNRWA funding after Israel alleged that some agency members in Gaza were linked to the Hamas attacks on October 7.

I am part of the Oslo Generation brought up on a lie about ‘peace’
Inès Abdel Razek opinion – “I am often asked whether the two-state solution is dead or if we advocate for a one-state solution. This misses the crucial question needed to move forward. The fixation on statehood and paying lip service to the two-state solution has disempowered our nation, consolidated bureaucratic and security apparatuses and whitewashed Israeli crimes.
The real question should be: how can we achieve a just peace and a liberated future throughout the entirety of the territory of historic Palestine. It is unreasonable to expect Palestinians to negotiate their freedom and fundamental rights.”

Israel-Egypt-EU gas deal is another green light to occupation and rights abuses
Inès Abdel Razek analysis – The recent gas deal represents another stain on the EU’s founding values. Instead of opposing neo-authoritarian states with ethno-nationalist agendas, and implementing a values-based foreign policy backed by strong multilateralism, Europe is simply choosing its own camps of colonisers and human rights abusers.
